Description Of Legal Dispute
Though the constitution Bangladesh stated the equal rights for all, around 5.5 million peoples of Dalit and Excluded community are experiencing the dehumanizing practices linked to untouchability, chronic poverty, socio-cultural deprivation and discrimination based on work and descent in the country. The more concerned issue is the dreadful situation of Dalit women among Dalit communities; they face the heaviest burden of both gender and caste-based discrimination and violence from both men in wider society, and from men within their own communities. These Dalit women cannot enter to the attention of the government & non-government development organisations and “the mainstream society”. And no effective measures have been taken for their development from the government and nongovernment side still. Dalits women has been fighting against the work and descent based discrimination, working in building leadership within Dalit women community, providing organizational capacity & professional skill training and organizing awareness activities along with taking existence principles in national and international level to eliminating the discrimination practices to Dalits and working for effective implementation of those. Dalit girls and women, who rank the highest in levels of illiteracy, often fall victim to prostitution and bonded labour trafficking. Discrimination against Dalit women is also reinforced by traditional norms and customs in Hinduism and Islam that deprive the women not only of control over property, but also over their own bodies. They are also excluded from participation in politics, community development and employment. Dalit women in Bangladesh face discrimination, exclusion and violence as a result of both their caste and gender. It is noted that Dalit women in Bangladesh lack political representation and are subject to continuous and systematic deprivation, exclusion and neglect. 32 Daits women and their family members are living under a brize at Qadirabad Cantonment areas of Natore District; they do not have any land or house. Cantonment Authority terminated their house under the construction period of brize; they promised to rehabilitate them but still now they do not do their commitment.
The majority of Dalit girls drops out of school and miss one of the most crucial opportunities in escaping poverty. Given the vast numbers of Dalit women and men living in poverty, justice will not be achieved if Dalits continue to be excluded, and their human rights denied. The status of Dalit women is dictated by the socio-cultural, economic and political situation of Dalit people in Bangladesh today and the extreme levels of exclusion and marginality they experience. Dalit women in Bangladesh are also victims of political violence and the country witnessed a number of fatwas issued against women’s right to vote, accompanied by violent attacks.
