Door to Door Campaigns against Torture

Bangladesh Center for Human Rights and Development is a non-governmental organization fighting for women’s human rights in Bangladesh. The Door to Door Campaigns against Torture (DDCAT) is organizing at least 10 demonstrations across Bangladesh to denunciate widespread sexual crimes, get justice and raise their voices for the victims of tortured and organized violence.

The Direct Action Programme is conducted by the Bangladesh Center for Human Rights and Development. Their mission is to work toward giving the most vulnerable people in Bangladesh access to education as well as diffusing the principles of democracy, creating rehabilitation programs and engaging in prevention to violation of human rights. More precisely they aim at protecting the members of society that are more inclined to suffer from any sort of sexual abuse including children, young women, marginalized people and minority groups. To do so, the DDCAT campaign focuses on promoting human rights, and highlighting heinous and perverse social conduct currently happening across the country. To name a few, targets are living in perpetual fear of rape, acid attacks or sexual trafficking. According to Odhikar: Protecting Human Rights in Bangladesh, around 492 young girls and women were victims of rape and gang rapes in the last six months of 2015. “It has turned into a social disease now”.

Hence, the campaign’s goal is to raise awareness around this sickening social trend and reach out to politicians and government officials in order to get fair justice when such crimes are committed and equally important, for them to become proactive.

These identified groups are considered as second-class citizens and are treated as such. The theme of the project was inspired by the following Martin Luther King’s citation:

“Of all forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhuman”

Donate to help the Door to Door Campaigns to go forward. Children and women across the world are more likely to suffer from any kind of violence. However and as depicted in the campaign, they endure horrific and unthinkable acts of violence. It has become a pattern of social deviance, it is spreading amongst the perpetrators and the victims are confronted to a passive government that obviously fails to be alarmed around these issues.
